Interviews are one of the best ways to get to know a candidate before you decide whether or not they are best for the job at hand. It’s a great idea to get creative with some of your interview questions, and the candidate’s answers can tell you a lot about who they are. So, today I am going to tell you a few interview questions to consider.

1. What is the biggest obstacle you’ve ever faced?

This could be either in their personal life or professional life, and the most important part is that the candidate can overcome the hurdles they face. It’s important to ask how they overcame it and how they would deal with it if it happened again. This gives you an idea of how the candidate deals with problem-solving.

2. What are your strengths?

Quite often, candidates will be asked what their weaknesses are. By surprising them by asking what their strengths are instead, they are less likely to be prepared and gives them a chance to show their skills positively.

3. Where do you want to be in 5 years?

Ambition is very important, so an idea of how far candidates want to push the boundaries is a great thing to measure. Also, the answer to this will tell you how committed the candidate will be to your company, and whether they are likely to stick around for a long time.

4. What do you know about the industry?

By getting an idea of the candidates knowledge of the trends in your industry, you can see whether they are up to date on the latest news. This is important, as an ill-informed candidate is unlikely to thrive in their position.

5. What are your hobbies?

This may be obvious to some recruiters, and the answer can tell you a lot about the candidate. For example, if a candidate enjoys team sports then you can get an idea for how they work in a team and how this will apply to the role you are looking to fill.
