Job boards can be a great way of finding new candidates for your company, and can provide great success when recruiting. However, they don’t always work, and today I’m going to give you a few of the reasons why!

 The Company

One of the reasons why job boards don’t always work is because of company practices. Most employers and recruiters use an ATS (Applicant Tracking System), and some of these systems will rank candidates based on their CV and relevance for the position at hand. This means that some employers will only actually access a few of the hundreds of applications that come in. One of the problems with this is that candidates may never hear back about their application, resulting in frustrated candidates who are less likely to apply for the same company again.

The Candidates
On the other hand, sometimes the candidates are the ones causing issues. One of the reasons why job boards don’t always work is because candidates who are not actually job hunting will keep their CV posted on job boards. Additionally, there are certain candidates who will apply for lots of jobs, most of which they are not qualified for – causing frustration for the employer as they try to sift through tons of irrelevant applications.

Employee Referrals
One factor that works against the success of job boards is the fact that employee referrals are far more beneficial than hiring from job boards. From it being less time consuming and costing far less, employers tend to respect the fact that good employees know good employees.

Social Media
Recruitment is evolving, and one recent change has come from how employers find candidates. LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat are now giving employers an opportunity to find new and different candidates. Networking through social media allows a wider scope of contact with people throughout an industry, and LinkedIn lets employers search for specific skill sets as required.

While there are reasons why job boards don’t always work, they are still relevant and can be a great recruiting tool for certain employers.
